When Devaki (Sridevi), a street performer accidentally breaks the windshield of Anand's (Jeetendra) car, it triggers events that lead them into marriage, and soon have a son. Vicky (Vinod Khanna) is a pilot and pregnant Yashoda (Jaya Pradha) are also newly married, and the two couples become friends. In a gruesome accident, Vicky loses his life and Devaki is lost, presumed dead. Injured, Yashoda gives birth to a still born child, but wakes up with a baby boy she names Kishan. Widower Anand lavishes love on Kishan. Devaki puts in an appearance and demands the return of her son. Her doctor advises that she cannot bear another child, and her hankering for Kishan ends up in Court. Maternal instincts of both Devaki and Yashoda rage; while the helpless child tearfully watches. Who will raise the child? What is the child going through; will the child's wishes be considered by the court? What does the law say, and what does maternal love shriek? Which one will prevail?
