Synopsis

*batteries not included is a story about Lacey Incorporated, a development company that has demolished an entire block on New York City's Lower East Side. The one old building remaining is home to a handful of tenants who refuse to be bought or forced out.

Lacey's right hand man, Kovacs, hires Carlos and other men as muscle to try to force the remaining tenants out, even resorting to violence. Each tenant has their own issues that make staying in the building and neighborhood important.

After Carlos delivers a final blow by destroying the tenants' possessions, they discover two animated, flying electronic objects that seem to be created by their destroyed metal possessions. These objects can recreate destroyed items and procreate with nuts, bolts, and electricity.

While the tenants debate whether to investigate the origins of these objects or not, they wonder if there is a limited time frame for their assistance against Lacey and Carlos. Meanwhile, Carlos is determined to destroy the objects that made him look foolish, and Lacey goes to extreme measures to achieve his goals.
