Synopsis

Blindspotting is a story set in West Oakland, following Collin Hopkins, a Black man who is on the last three days of his one-year parole after being convicted as a felon. Collin works as a mover for the Commander Moving Company, but he faces numerous restrictions as part of his parole.

Collin must live in a halfway house with additional rules, adhere to a curfew, stay within Alameda County, and avoid possessing firearms. Any violation could result in an extension of his parole or even a return to prison. Despite his desire to lead a straight life, Collin faces challenges due to the environment in which he lives.

One of the main threats to Collin is his friendship with Miles Jones, his best friend and moving partner. Miles, who is Caucasian, feels the need to prove himself in a predominantly Black neighborhood undergoing gentrification. Collin, on the other hand, faces the daily reality of being a Black man in a society where police violence against Black individuals is common.

As Collin navigates his relationships, including with his girlfriend Val, who works as a dispatcher at Commander, he must confront the impact of gentrification on his community and the systemic racism that threatens his freedom and safety.
