Synopsis

"Blue Black Permanent" is a poignant and poetic film that tells the story of three generations of women in a remote Scottish island community. The film explores the complexities of their relationships, as they navigate the challenges of family, identity, and memory.

At the heart of the film is Barbara, a middle-aged woman who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her mother, Greta. Greta was a fiercely independent woman who lived life on her own terms, and her death has left a void in Barbara's life that she is struggling to fill.

As Barbara grapples with her grief, she must also confront the challenges of motherhood, as she tries to guide her teenage daughter, Morag, through the difficult process of growing up. Morag is at a crossroads in her life, grappling with questions of identity and the desire to break free from the constraints of her small island community.

As the story unfolds, we see glimpses of Greta's past, through a series of flashbacks and dreams. We see her as a young woman, living through the hardships of World War II, and struggling to find her place in the world. These scenes are beautifully woven into the fabric of the film, creating a sense of history and continuity that underscores the importance of memory in shaping our lives.

Through its lyrical and poetic style, "Blue Black Permanent" captures the essence of life in a remote Scottish island community, with its wild, windswept landscapes and tight-knit communities. The film is notable for its exploration of the lives of women in this context, and for its innovative approach to storytelling.
