Bye Bye Germany is a film that tells the story of a group of Jewish Holocaust survivors who are trying to start a new life in post-war Germany. The main character, David Bermann, is a charismatic salesman who convinces his fellow survivors to join him in a scheme to sell linens to Germans in order to raise enough money to emigrate to America.
As they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives in a country that was once their oppressor, the group must also confront their own traumatic pasts and the guilt and shame that comes with surviving the Holocaust. David, in particular, is haunted by his experiences in the concentration camps and struggles to come to terms with the loss of his family.
Through humor and wit, Bye Bye Germany explores themes of identity, memory, and forgiveness as the characters grapple with their pasts and try to find a way forward in a world that has been forever changed by the horrors of the Holocaust.
