Synopsis

"Chasing the Moon" is a documentary series that reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. Utilizing a visual feast of previously overlooked and lost archival material, the film features a diverse cast of characters who played key roles in these historic events. Among those included are astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Frank Borman and Bill Anders; Sergei Khrushchev, son of the former Soviet premier and a leading Soviet rocket engineer; Poppy Northcutt, a 25-year-old "mathematics whiz" who gained worldwide attention as the first woman to serve in the all-male bastion of NASA's Mission Control; and Ed Dwight, the Air Force pilot selected by the Kennedy administration to train as America's first black astronaut."

Secondly, I felt that the soundtrack did not effectively capture the emotional complexity and intensity of the events depicted in the documentary. The music often felt disconnected from the narrative, failing to enhance the viewer's immersion in the story and evoking the appropriate feelings.

Timothy Campbell

The attention to detail in selecting the soundtrack for the series is evident, with each musical cue serving a specific purpose in advancing the narrative and engaging the audience.

First, I found the musical score of Chasing the Moon to be overly repetitive and lacking in depth. The same motifs and melodies seemed to be recycled throughout the series, which made it feel monotonous and uninspired.

Michelle Phillips
5/10

The use of archival material in the film is complemented by a soundtrack that feels both authentic to the time period and modern in its interpretation, creating a unique audiovisual experience.
