Cirkus Columbia is a film directed by Danis Tanovic, based on a novel by Ivica Djikic. The story takes place in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the early 1990s, just before the outbreak of the Bosnian War.
The film follows the life of a man named Divko who returns to his hometown after years of living in Germany. He brings with him a young girlfriend and a black cat, causing quite a stir in the small town.
Divko's return triggers a series of events that will change the lives of the townspeople forever. His ex-wife, Azra, is now in a relationship with a much younger man, and their son Martin is caught in the middle of their tumultuous relationship.
As tensions rise in the town, Divko's past actions come back to haunt him, leading to a dramatic climax that will test the bonds of family and friendship.
