Katie is a serious documentary filmmaker. She's frustrated that she's about to turn 32, but she still can't find any intellectual work that could make her career work. For example, her dream project is to make a documentary about the famous 20th century Russian writer and dissident Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. Since no one wants to finance that project, she agrees to be a contract director for television production company Arlene, who gives her a task she couldn't hate more. She's shooting a documentary series about singles dating in a big city. Her friend and her cameraman Spider of hers, who has a crush on her, joins her. Her subject turns out to be Jed, a self-centered hottie completely oblivious to proper dating etiquette. Every date he goes on inadvertently turns into a disaster, which makes for great television. Katie takes a liking to Jed and she decides to try to help him become a better dater.
