Two family clans (here simply called A and B) who have a long history of hostility have agreed to bury their hostility. A central point of the deal is that the youngest girl in A (who doesn't really have a young male worthy of escaping. After a while they feel (correctly) that their current hideout isn't safe enough, and they make a second time come to puberty) will marry the older man of B. The girl, her mother and will run away. Here they are safe and this place is never discovered. But in a city there will be a big party. In view of the many years that mother and daughter had lived without fear, they took a risk and went to this town. But Clan B had expected that.
