Embrace of the Serpent is a 2015 Colombian film directed by Ciro Guerra. The movie tells the story of Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his tribe, who helps two scientists, German Theodor Koch-Grunberg and American Richard Evans Schultes, in their search for a rare healing plant.
The film is divided into two timelines, one in the early 1900s and the other in the 1940s, showing Karamakate's interactions with both scientists as they navigate the dangers of the Amazon jungle.
Embrace of the Serpent explores themes of colonialism, spirituality, and the destruction of indigenous cultures. The stunning black-and-white cinematography captures the beauty and mystery of the Amazon rainforest, making it a visually captivating and thought-provoking film.
