Fire, Rain, Wind, Snow, and Fire: The Story of a Prairie Soundtrack (

Synopsis

This documentary provides viewers with knowledge about the unique ecosystems of Ohio prairies and the importance of these preserved and restored natural environments. Accordingly, its focus is on the famed Huffman Prairie outside of Dayton, Ohio and the Brother Don Geiger Prairie the restored prairie at Mount St. John Nature Preserve, Beavercreek, OH. The documentary film provides close ups of living organisms in the tall grass prairie and examines the special historical connections of these natural environments. At the same time, this documentary is my act of bringing art and spirituality together in a form of Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. Wabi-Sabi, a manifestation of Zen Buddhist thought, urges us to find beauty in the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. By looking to this aesthetic, I wish to produce in this documentary a meditation on the beautiful in nature and on those moments when that nature becomes potentially an imperfect and precarious context for the ambitions of humans.
