Synopsis

Flatliners is a 1990 American science fiction psychological horror film directed by Joel Schumacher. The film stars Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon.

The story follows five medical students who attempt to find out what lies beyond death by conducting experiments that involve temporarily stopping their hearts. As they experience near-death experiences, they begin to be haunted by their past sins and guilt.

As the students' experiments become more dangerous and their visions more disturbing, they must confront their own demons in order to survive. The film explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the consequences of playing with death.

Flatliners received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following. It was remade in 2017 with Ellen Page, Diego Luna, and Nina Dobrev in the lead roles.
