What to do when the financing for a film just won't turn up? This is the question which troubles Soumaya and Violeta, two young filmmakers and friends. Hard hit by the ongoing crisis, it isn't that surprising that they jokingly consider the idea of robbing a bank. Or maybe... shoot a fake documentary about robbing a bank? They decide to put an ad in the newspaper advertising a dubious position and film the "job interviews" with a hidden camera. The bank robber candidates are for the most part eccentric, marginal men looking for a lucky break. But something goes amiss. The final candidate, a femme fatal who likes to go by the name of Viper, seems to see through their game. In an improvised effort to prove themselves as real "gangstas", they accidentally become murderers. But the show must go on. They decide to turn the film into a visual testament of their misadventure. Gangstas is a short film which situates itself somewhere between film noir and dark comedy and overtly plays with the boundaries of documentary and fiction. Based on the real situation of young filmmakers today, it creates a fictional world of unforgettable characters which reflect and parody contemporary society.
