Synopsis

Hairspray Live! is a television special that aired on NBC in 2016. The show is a live musical adaptation of the 2002 Broadway musical Hairspray, which is based on the 1988 film of the same name.

The story follows Tracy Turnblad, a plus-sized teenager in 1960s Baltimore who dreams of dancing on The Corny Collins Show, a popular TV dance program. Tracy faces discrimination and prejudice because of her size, but she is determined to break down barriers and fight for equality.

The cast of Hairspray Live! includes Ariana Grande as Tracy's best friend Penny Pingleton, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, and Derek Hough as Corny Collins. The show features catchy songs, energetic dance numbers, and a message of acceptance and inclusion.
