High Season tells the story of Katherine (Jacqueline Bisset) and her husband Patrick (James Fox), who live in a coastal town on Rhodes before it became a tourist hotspot. Their daughter Chloe (Ruby Baker) grows up in this idyllic setting.
Despite their differences, Patrick and Katherine continue to live on the island, but separately. Patrick entertains female tourists and supports himself through his sculpture pieces, while Katherine struggles to sell her latest photobook.
Katherine faces the possibility of losing her home unless she can find a buyer for a vase given to her by the elderly art historian Basil Sharp (Sebastian Shaw). Her friend Penelope (Irene Papas) sees tourists as enemies, while her son Yanni appreciates the prosperity they bring.
Rick (Kenneth Branagh) helps Katherine and becomes infatuated with her, while his wife Carol (Lesley Manville) is occupied with poetry and Yanni. Konstantinis (Robert Stephens) wants to buy Katherine's vase, but needs it to be declared a fake to take it out of Greece.
The story also involves a hunt for a possible Russian spy and a British government agent on vacation, adding intrigue to the already complex relationships on the island.
