Himizu is a Japanese film directed by Sion Sono, based on a manga of the same name by Minoru Furuya.
The story follows Sumida, a teenage boy living in a dystopian world after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami. Sumida's life is filled with violence and despair, as he deals with an abusive father and a mother who abandoned him. Despite his circumstances, Sumida tries to find a sense of normalcy by working at a boat rental shop.
However, Sumida's life takes a dark turn when he meets a girl named Keiko, who is also struggling with her own trauma. Together, they form a bond that helps them cope with their pain and find hope in a seemingly hopeless world.
As the two navigate their troubled pasts, they are forced to confront their inner demons and make difficult decisions that will ultimately determine their fate.
Himizu is a powerful and emotional film that explores themes of resilience, redemption, and the human capacity for survival in the face of adversity.
