The story begins when Diana Burgos (Nohely Arteaga) gets out of jail after having spent several years in prison after having murdered her husband in self-defense, who mistreated her and also discovered that she had a lover. This lover was Diego Morales (Carlos Mata), from whom Diana became pregnant and whose son she gave birth to in prison. At the same time that Diana is released from prison, Diego Morales witnesses the murder of his wife, Jimena (Astrid Carolina Herrera), and the kidnapping of their son, Gabriel. Once released from prison, Diana Burgos and her friend Dulce (Raquel Castaños), the bearded woman, will tour the country with the circus show The Mystery of María Lionza, while Diana looks for Diego to tell him that she had his son. When Diana arrives in the town of San Venancio, where Diego lives, she discovers that Diego started a family and has a son. The beauty and sensuality of Diana Burgos seduces the men of the town. The landlord and millionaire farmer Francisco Moncada (Pedro Renteria) falls madly in love with her and proposes to her, but Francisco dies shortly after and Diana is left alone, pregnant with her future daughter, Dianita. Upon learning of the past that Diana and Diego lived through, Enrique Moncada (Manuel Salazar), Francisco's son, who is obsessed with Diana, orders Diego to be locked up in an asylum and some hooded men who rape Diana. Later, Diana marries Enrique, who divorces and throws his first wife, Catalina (Lupita Ferrer) out of the ranch. Thus, Diana Burgos becomes the only lady and owner of the town of San Venancio, swearing that she will take revenge on those who despised and raped her after Francisco's death. Dianita will grow up in Cumaná far from her mother, raised by Dulce. When the young woman turns twenty she moves to San Venancio, where she meets Gabriel Morales (whom she met as a child in Cumana), and the two fall in love. However, Diana will do everything in her power to separate them, since she does not forgive Gabriel for being the legitimate son of Diego Morales, while his own son, Armando (Jose Zambrano), was never recognized. Isabel Moncada (Marlene Maseda), daughter of Enrique and Catalina and granddaughter of Francisco, also returns to the town, who does not forgive his father for having thrown out his mother to marry Diana. Isabel will not only try to recover her part of the farm and her grandfather's fortune, but also to conquer Gabriel and keep him away from Dianita. Thus will begin a stormy story of love, hate and struggles for the inheritance of Francisco Moncada.
