Blood Ties is a film that follows the exploits of the "Carpathian American" society in Long Beach. Carpathian Americans, like any other expatriate organization, enjoy family get-togethers and share business opportunities. However, there is one minor difference - the Carpathian Americans have a predilection for drinking human blood.
The story begins in the bible belt, where teenager Cody wakes up to find intruders skewering his parents and preparing to set them on fire. Despite being shot by a crossbow bolt, Cody manages to escape from the "hunters". Remembering his parents' advice to contact his uncle in Long Beach in times of trouble, Cody seeks refuge with him.
Cody's uncle is a local businessman and a prominent member of the "Carpathian American" society. Cody meets other members of the society, including Harry, a crusading journalist, his non-Carpathian girlfriend/lawyer who advocates for integration, the wanton Celia who enjoys having her neck bitten during moments of ecstasy, and "The Shrikes", a gang of rebellious teenage vampire bikers.
As Cody is initiated into the dark secret that binds the clan together, trouble looms in the form of hunters who are determined to destroy the nest of vampires they have discovered. The Carpathians must choose between maintaining their facade of "respectability" and reigniting an ancient blood feud.
