Mephisto is a novel written by Klaus Mann that tells the story of Hendrik Höfgen, a German actor who rises to fame during the Nazi regime in Germany. As Höfgen becomes more successful, he is forced to make compromises with the Nazi party in order to maintain his position in the theater world. Despite his initial resistance to the regime, he eventually becomes a puppet of the Nazis, betraying his friends and beliefs in pursuit of power and fame.
