Beyond a former marital indiscretion on his part with a work colleague which has placed a slight sense of mistrust into the family dynamic, married Ann Bradshaw, a dental hygienist, and Dale Bradshaw, fifteen year partnered with family friend Mel Davidson in a high tech manufacturing company which is finally starting to make money, and their teenage daughter Casey Bradshaw, lead an outwardly typical middle class suburban family life, including Casey rebelling against her parents' oversight, especially that of her mother. Their world is turned upside down when they are informed by the police that evidence points to Dale having just been kidnapped, Detective Barry Matthews leading the investigation. In the process of Matthews' investigation, evidence further emerges pointing to Dale possibly being involved in laundering money through the company for a Mexican drug cartel, which brings the DEA into the investigation under the lead of Agent Sarah Pullman, with who there has been past antagonistic professional relationship with Matthews. A point of contention between the two becomes Ann and whether she is also involved in the criminal activity, Matthews' judgment which may be clouded in his and Ann's growing feelings for each other. If Matthews is correct in one of this theories being that Dale is being set up, Ann and Casey's lives may be in jeopardy if Dale is unable to provide whatever the kidnappers want.
