Synopsis

Othello is a modern crime drama that takes inspiration from the names of the main characters in Shakespeare's play. The story revolves around White London Metropolitan Police commissioner Sinclair Carver, who aims to maintain law and order while promoting racial integration by recruiting black and Asian officers.

However, Carver's career takes a hit when he is caught on tape making derogatory remarks about black individuals. As a result, he is forced to resign. In the midst of racial unrest following the death of black man Billy Coates in custody, John Othello emerges as the only authoritative black police officer who can prevent riots.

John's actions lead to him being named Carver's successor, much to the dismay of his friend Ben Jago. Jago, fueled by ambition and a desire for revenge, begins plotting against John. He orchestrates a series of events to make it seem like John's white wife Desdemona is being unfaithful.

Jago manipulates the investigation into Coates' death, leading to a young cop's suicide and a mistrial. He then plants false DNA evidence to incriminate Desdemona. As John's world begins to crumble, will he unknowingly bring about his own downfall in despair?
