Radio Flyer is a heartwarming tale about a loving father who imparts the value of promise and belief to his two boys. The story follows young Mike and his kid brother Bobby, who are abandoned by their dad and forced to move with their mother and German shepherd Shane to a rural town.
The local kids, led by the abusive Victor Hernandez, see Mike and Bobby as intruders who are 'stealing' their predecessors' place. Despite the challenges they face, the boys find solace in the friendly sheriff Daugherty, who offers them protection.
However, a new threat emerges in the form of ma's new lover, who expects to be called the king and becomes violent towards Bobby when drunk in the garage. The boys keep this secret to protect their mother's happiness.
Throughout the story, the superstitious brothers spend their time exploring with a wheeled red wagon named Radio Flyer. This name eventually inspires a desperate 'magical escape' attempt as they navigate the challenges of their tumultuous environment.
