Coach Roy was once the top brains in college basketball. But lately his attention has been on his upcoming promotions, not his next match. What's more, Roy's temper has run wild, leading to him being kicked out of college ball until he can show his compliance, in other words, not blow up every time he steps onto the court. Roy waits and waits; for a suitable coaching offer, but he gets only one: the Mount Vernon Junior High School Smelters basketball team. Roy reluctantly accepts the offer, hoping that a few weeks at school will show his good intentions and return him to his lifestyle as a celebrated college coach. But when old school meets high school, Coach Roy doesn't know what hit him. It's not until Roy decides to teach his youngsters to carry some new concepts, such as passing, rebounding, dribbling, and scoring, that the Smelters begin to find success and Roy finds something he long thought lost: his love of the game.
