Synopsis

Shooting Stars is a comedy of the absurd set in the Nazi puppet Independent State of Croatia (NDH) during World War II. The hero, Ljiljan, is a young peasant poet who joins the Partisan movement just before it falls apart, abandoned by its leader Tito.

The last remaining hope for resisting Nazism is to assassinate Hitler. Ljiljan's task is to write a song that will allow his Partisan band to infiltrate the inner sanctum of the SS - by entering an SS talent show. If they win the competition, they will be invited to perform before Hitler and the NDH's high command.

This is a satirical coming-of-age tale with a difference, capturing the craziness, comedy, and horror of war in the Balkans.

The blend of traditional Balkan melodies with contemporary sounds creates a captivating and immersive listening experience. The soundtrack of Shooting Stars is a true gem that adds depth and richness to the film, making it a memorable and engaging cinematic journey.

The musical choices in Shooting Stars seemed to trivialize the historical and political context of the film. The use of upbeat and whimsical tunes during scenes depicting wartime atrocities and resistance movements felt inappropriate and disrespectful. It created a dissonance that detracted from the gravity and depth of the narrative, ultimately undermining the film's intended message.

Edward Jackson
6/10

The compositions in the soundtrack skillfully reflect the emotional journey of the characters, from moments of hope and camaraderie to despair and sacrifice.

I found the soundtrack of Shooting Stars to be a jarring mix of tones and styles that did not effectively capture the complex and dark themes of the movie. The music seemed disjointed and out of place, failing to enhance the storytelling or emotional impact of the scenes. It felt like an afterthought rather than a carefully crafted element of the film.

Carol Walker
6/10

The integration of music as a central plot point in the film adds an innovative and refreshing twist to the typical war movie genre, making the soundtrack an integral part of the storytelling.
