Synopsis

Snowden is a biographical thriller film directed by Oliver Stone, based on the true story of Edward Snowden, a former CIA employee who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency in 2013. The film follows Snowden as he becomes disillusioned with the government's surveillance programs and decides to expose the extent of their spying on American citizens.

As Snowden's actions are revealed to the public, he becomes a fugitive and seeks asylum in Russia to avoid prosecution in the United States. The film explores the moral dilemmas faced by Snowden as he grapples with the consequences of his actions and the impact they have on his personal life.

Snowden stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the title role, alongside Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, and Zachary Quinto. The film received mixed reviews from critics, with praise for Gordon-Levitt's performance and Stone's direction, but criticism for its portrayal of Snowden and the events surrounding his leaks.
