Synopsis

Spaceship Earth is a documentary film that tells the story of eight people who spent two years quarantined inside a self-engineered replica of Earth's ecosystem called Biosphere 2. The experiment was conducted in the early 1990s in the Arizona desert and aimed to study the feasibility of creating a sustainable environment for humans in outer space.

The film explores the challenges and conflicts that arose among the participants as they struggled to maintain the delicate balance of their closed system. It also delves into the broader implications of the experiment, touching on themes of environmentalism, utopian ideals, and the limits of human ingenuity.

Through archival footage and interviews with the original Biosphere 2 crew, Spaceship Earth offers a thought-provoking look at the intersection of science, technology, and human ambition. It raises questions about our relationship with the planet and the potential for creating a better future for all living beings.
