Stripes is a story about John Winger and his best friend, Russell Ziskey, who decide to enlist in the army after realizing their lives are going nowhere.
In basic training, they join a platoon of misfits and constantly clash with their drill sergeant, Sergeant Hulka.
With the help of MPs Stella and Louise, they manage to get out of trouble multiple times.
When their platoon is assigned to a mission in Italy to test a new vehicle, John and Russell take it for an unauthorized test drive to visit Stella and Louise in West Germany.
However, they end up behind enemy lines in Czechoslovakia, and must rely on their own skills and the EM-50 to rescue their platoon without the US army's knowledge.
