"Taken 3" is a story about Bryan Mills, a former covert operative, who is trying to have a normal relationship with his daughter, Kim. He also tries to help his ex-wife, Lenore, who is unsure about staying married to her husband, Stuart.
One day, Bryan receives a text from Lenore asking to talk to him. When he arrives at his apartment, he discovers Lenore dead. The police show up and are ready to arrest him, but Bryan manages to escape. An inspector investigates the case and while he doesn't fully believe Bryan is guilty, he still tries to find him.
Bryan talks to Kim and Stuart; Kim doesn't think he killed her mother, but Stuart doesn't exactly defend him. Bryan finds evidence that could prove his innocence and makes sure the inspector gets it. The inspector decides to keep an eye on Kim.
Bryan turns to his friends for help and eventually discovers that Stuart may know more than he's letting on.
