The Aspern Papers is a novella by Henry James, first published in 1888. The story follows an unnamed narrator who is determined to obtain a collection of letters written by the famous poet Jeffrey Aspern.
The narrator travels to Venice and rents a room in the home of Juliana Bordereau, a former lover of Aspern's. Juliana lives with her niece, Miss Tita, who is protective of her aunt and the letters.
As the narrator becomes more entangled in their lives, he must navigate their suspicions and secrets in order to obtain the coveted letters. The novella explores themes of obsession, manipulation, and the lengths people will go to in pursuit of their desires.
