When the scientist Thomas Harbor proves the existence of afterlife, there is a massive wave of suicides on Earth.
On the second anniversary of his discovery, his estranged son Will travels on a ferry to the island where his father lives.
He meets Isla, a troubled woman that lost her five-year son, and they have a conversation; then they say goodbye to each other on the arrival.
Will's brother Toby drives him to Thomas's real estate, indeed a colony for troubled people that attempted to suicide.
Thomas discloses that he has developed a machine to record what dead people see in the afterlife.
When Will walks on the beach, he sees Isla trying to commit suicide, but he saves and brings Isla to his father's house.
