Synopsis

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is a documentary that takes a look, mostly through the eyes of Tammy Faye Bakker Messner, at her rise and fall as a popular televangelist with husband Jim Bakker.

It traces their rise, from her teen marriage to Jim, their children's TV show where she was a puppeteer and singer, to their success founding the 700 Club, co-founding the Trinity Broadcast Network, and starting PTL Network.

Her nondenominational version of Christianity reached out to all, and they built Heritage USA, a theme park. However, things started to fall apart as money woes mounted for Heritage and for Jim, leading Tammy to take pills.

Eventually, Jerry Falwell took over PTL, Jim went to prison, and Tammy remarried only to find herself alone again. Despite all the challenges, she remained unsinkable.
