Against the backdrop of troubled turn-of-the-twentieth-century Kastoria, right after the Greco-Turkish War of 1897, Greeks and Turks, among many other nationalities, try to live together. Under those circumstances, the financially hard-pressed fisherman, Apostolis Dimitsas, struggles to eke out an existence living off rich Lake Orestiada, in high hopes of creating a better future for his family and his older son, Christos. However, behind the calm facade of peaceful coexistence, the unexpected discovery of an incapacitated revolutionary will threaten to put in jeopardy not only the region's already fragile peace but also Christos' very life. Will this encounter mark the birth of a freedom fighter?
