Synopsis

The Ghost and the Darkness is a period adventure drama that follows the story of John Beaumont, the owner of a British railroad firm, who is building a rail line through Uganda. A bridge is needed for the tracks to cross a large river, and engineer John Henry Patterson is called to supervise construction.

Despite a strict deadline set by Beaumont, Patterson is confident that with his guidance, the local laborers will be able to complete the job on time. However, when several workers are killed in a lion attack, Patterson is forced to confront the animal.

After successfully killing one lion, it becomes clear that there are more predators in the jungle. The lion attacks continue, resulting in the deaths of 130 men. Patterson and Beaumont decide to bring in Charles Remmington, an expert hunter, to help deal with the man-eaters.

Charles Remmington understands the nature of the predators and knows how to lure them into his trap. The story unfolds as the men work together to overcome one of man's oldest enemies in the African jungle.
