Synopsis

The Good Shepherd is a film that follows the story of Edward Wilson (Matt Damon), a laconic and self-contained C.I.A. operative who is in charge of covert operations during the Bay of Pigs. The agency suspects that Fidel Castro was tipped off, leading Wilson to search for the leak.

As Wilson delves into his investigation, he reflects on his past through a series of flashbacks. These flashbacks include memories of his father's death, his time at Yale where he studied poetry and was a member of Skull and Bones, his recruitment into the O.S.S., his tumultuous relationships, and his experiences in spy craft in London.

Throughout the film, we witness Wilson's idealism slowly erode as he navigates the complexities of the Cold War and forms relationships with agency, British, and Soviet counterparts. The heart of the movie's narration lies in Wilson's transformation as he closes in on the leak, ultimately revealing the nature of his evolution from idealism to something else.
