Charming author Tom Stanfield is instantly interested and discretely interested, like her, when he meets single-by-choice divorce lawyer Katherine Bixby, once publicly at a book-signing sessions for his single bestseller about the love for his late wife, and repeatedly privately as they are best friends in charge of preparing the wedding of his buddy Rick Wychowski and her Marcie Schlossberg.
But the latter is determined to get Katherine hooked up and trusts her 'medium' manicurist, who predicts she'll soon meet her true love, named Michael. Dates keep going wrong, even with Katherine's most attractive single high-school lover Michael Breakstone, now a successful corporate lawyer, perhaps because she tries follow the prophetic formula.
Despite his writer's block, Tom helps, rather then Katherine, who sabotages her shot at promotion by putting clients' relationship happiness before billing divorce proceeding hours, mend Rick's engagement after Marcie showed little interest in the wedding, being obsessed with the honeymoon.
