Synopsis

The Shipping News is a novel by Annie Proulx that tells the story of Quoyle, a man who moves to Newfoundland after a series of tragedies in his life.

Quoyle, a newspaper hack, decides to start a new life in his ancestral home in Newfoundland with his two daughters. He takes a job as a reporter for the local newspaper, The Gammy Bird, where he covers shipping news.

As Quoyle settles into his new life, he begins to uncover dark family secrets and confront his own demons. With the help of the quirky residents of Newfoundland, Quoyle learns to navigate the challenges of his past and embrace his future.

The Shipping News is a poignant and beautifully written novel that explores themes of family, redemption, and the power of community. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1994 and was adapted into a successful film in 2001.
