Synopsis

Against the backdrop of the daunting housing shortage in 1970s Paris, and the suspicious suicide attempt of the young Egyptologist, Simone Choule, the mousy naturalised Frenchman, Trelkovsky, decides to try his luck at moving into the desperate woman's now-vacant flat.

But, as the new renter does his best to comply with the draconian rules of the gloomy tenement building's landlord, Monsieur Zy, and learn to live with the spiteful neighbours' insidious intimidation, more and more, Trelkovsky finds himself enmeshed in a real, or perhaps, imagined web of conspiracy.

Now, as Trelkovsky succumbs to the malevolent building's urban paranoia, hearing voices and seeing things, he becomes convinced that the building's other occupants are plotting to kill him.

Are Trelkovsky's fears justified, or is the tenant starting to lose his fragile grip on reality?

User reviews

Paul Jones
5/10

The soundtrack of The Tenant perfectly captures the eerie and unsettling atmosphere of the film.

Kimberly Baker
9/10

The haunting and eerie atmosphere created by the soundtrack of The Tenant perfectly captures the sense of paranoia and suspense that permeates the film. The music enhances the tension and unease felt by the protagonist, Trelkovsky, as he navigates the sinister world of his new apartment building.

Ronald Clark
6/10

The music builds a sense of foreboding and suspense, keeping the audience on edge throughout the movie.

Linda Taylor
5/10

Overall, the music of The Tenant is a crucial element in creating a chilling and immersive cinematic experience.

Lisa Allen
6/10

The soundtrack effectively complements the film's themes of isolation, alienation, and psychological breakdown.

Donald Rodriguez
6/10

The use of strings and unconventional instruments adds a sense of unease and tension to the music, mirroring Trelkovsky's growing sense of dread.

Thomas Miller
3/10

The use of dissonant and discordant tones in the soundtrack felt jarring and out of place, distracting from the storyline rather than enhancing it. It seemed like the music was trying too hard to be unsettling, but ended up feeling forced and inauthentic.

James Brown
5/10

The soundtrack enhances the film's sense of claustrophobia and paranoia, drawing the audience into Trelkovsky's deteriorating mental state.

Paul Parker
2/10

The lack of memorable melodies or motifs in the soundtrack made it difficult for me to connect emotionally with the characters or the unfolding events on screen. The music felt like background noise rather than a cohesive and integral part of the overall cinematic experience.

Mary Davis
5/10

The haunting vocals and atmospheric soundscapes create a sense of unease that lingers long after the film ends.

Dorothy Brown
10/10

Overall, the soundtrack of The Tenant is a masterful piece of work that not only complements the film's themes and atmosphere but also stands on its own as a haunting and evocative musical composition.

David Lee
9/10

The use of dissonant tones and unsettling melodies in the soundtrack effectively conveys the psychological turmoil experienced by Trelkovsky as he grapples with his fears and suspicions. The music adds a layer of depth to the narrative, drawing the audience further into the protagonist's unraveling mind.

Deborah Campbell
5/10

The haunting melodies and dissonant tones immerse the listener in the protagonist's descent into paranoia and madness.

Lisa Mitchell
5/10

The score's blend of traditional orchestration and experimental sounds enhances the film's surreal and nightmarish quality.

Charles Moore
2/10

I found the soundtrack of The Tenant to be repetitive and uninspired. The music failed to create a sense of suspense or tension that would complement the psychological thriller aspect of the film.
