Synopsis

Written and directed by Shane Meadows, This Is England '90 follows on from the critically acclaimed feature This Is England (2006) and the subsequent BAFTA winning series' This Is England '86 and '88 - two of Channel 4's highest ever rated dramas. Charting the turbulent lives of a group of friends looking for love, a laugh and a future as Britain moves from the 80s into the 90s, This Is England follows the misadventures of Woody, Lol, Shaun and the rest of the gang as they struggle with the soaring highs and harrowing lows of growing up - and moving on. Set to a seminal soundtrack, this much-anticipated final chapter finds the gang embracing the rave scene of a new decade. But the utter hilarity and unadulterated joy of their 'summer of love' soon gives way to a bleak winter. As the stark reality of life takes hold and, ultimately, takes life, this new season will see an enormous transformation in everyone.

User reviews

Sarah Hall
2/10

I found that some of the song choices in the soundtrack were cliché and predictable, failing to bring a fresh or innovative perspective to the scenes they were meant to accompany. It felt like the music was chosen based on familiarity rather than enhancing the emotional depth of the characters and their experiences.

Charles Garcia
5/10

The transition from the euphoric 'summer of love' to the harsh realities of life is reflected in the evolving tone of the music, creating a powerful contrast.

Stephanie Taylor
6/10

The soundtrack not only complements the narrative but also serves as a character in itself, shaping the mood and atmosphere of each scene.

Dorothy Green
2/10

The soundtrack of This Is England '90 felt disjointed and inconsistent, lacking a cohesive flow that would have enhanced the viewing experience. The abrupt shifts between different music genres and styles made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story.

Joseph Taylor
2/10

While the rave scene was a significant aspect of the storyline, I felt that the soundtrack relied too heavily on stereotypical rave anthems, failing to capture the complexity and nuance of the characters' journey through the 90s. The music often felt like a superficial addition rather than a meaningful reflection of the characters' inner struggles and growth.

Richard Evans
5/10

The emotional impact of the series is amplified by the well-chosen songs that resonate with the audience on a personal level.

Timothy Taylor

Overall, the soundtrack of This Is England '90 is a standout feature that elevates the viewing experience and leaves a lasting impression.

Matthew Brown

The use of iconic tracks from the 90s adds a layer of authenticity to the setting and time period of the show.

The blend of upbeat dance tunes and melancholic ballads mirrors the highs and lows of the characters' lives, making the soundtrack a pivotal element of the storytelling.
