Trick or Treat
It's Halloween and Greg's 45th birthday but he's depressed. Fatherhood with a four-month-old baby and employment at a McJob he hates are a grueling combination and the move back to his hometown Blackpool isn't working out. He also desperately misses his partying days and his feisty wife Gemma is dismissive of his 'clairvoyant' ambitions and is threatening to leave him.
After Gemma heads to bed, Greg settles down in front of the TV but his peace is soon disturbed by a knock on the door. It's Greg estranged wannabe gangster brother Dan who's just drunkenly run someone over. What's more, he's put the body in the boot and now wants sober Greg to help him get rid of it. Greg is about to refuse when there's another knock on the door. Dan pleads with Greg to keep quiet and hides.
The new arrivals are Clarence, a hood Greg knew from the 'good old days', and a taciturn, scary thug called Lesley. They're looking for Dan and after a tense search around the house take Greg to see their boss, Miss Ferguson - an insane gangster whose only son Baxter was last seen heading off to see Dan about 'something heavy'. She gives Greg two hours to find Dan and advises he should first seek out Dan's girlfriend Karen.
The next hour will fry Greg's mind, as each new revelation offers ever more horrific explanations for the madness he's experiencing. Has his brother actually killed a deranged gangster's son? Or has Dan arranged this scenario to scare his brother out of the UK so he can cement his affair with Gemma? And when Greg finds out that Dan's been viewing a website called 'Wake Up Call' that stage manages extreme scenarios to shock men out of depression surely the whole set-up has been organized by his wife to snap him out of his mid-life crisis? Does he face death or is he being played and, if so, by whom?
