Walking the Amazon Part 1- Peru to Brazil. 860 days and more than 6000 miles - the incredible journey. Ed Stafford planned for 12 months for his expedition to walk the length of the Amazon. During his journey he climbed mountains, went down the deepest gorge in South America and trekked through wetlands. He started his journey on 2 April 2008 with Luke Collyer who left after 3 months to return home to England and his fiancé, after falling out with Ed. Ed continued alone until August 2008 when he recruited Gadiel "Cho" Sanchez Rivera who traveled the rest of the way. This first episode covers his trip from Peru to Brazil, where he traveled through the Red Zone which is rife with drug traffickers. At one point, in Peru, local tribesmen imprisoned Mr Stafford and his partner on suspicion of murder. They were released after 48 hours.
Walking the Amazon Part 2 - Brazil to the Atlantic. This episode is about Ed's journey from Brazil to the Atlantic. This part of his walk took Ed and Cho through the dense Amazon jungle. Ed battled with the jungle and his own emotions where he began to doubt his ability to continue. Lack of food and water, injury, and tropical disease dogged both men on this part of the trek. But he eventually reached the Atlantic on 9 August 2010, after making what is acknowledged to be the longest trek in history.
