War Witch tells the story of Komona, a girl in Sub-Saharan Africa, who recounts her harrowing experience to her unborn child.
She was kidnapped by rebels and forced to join their bloody civil war.
Despite the horrors she faces, Komona discovers a valuable intuition about the presence of the enemy, which leads to her being elevated as a witch and favored by the rebel leader.
However, her special status is threatened in a world of superstition and senseless brutality, with the ghosts of the war dead haunting her visions.
With the help of a newfound friend, Komona decides to desert the rebel group, but escaping the brutal life proves to be far from easy, with physical and spiritual consequences following her wherever she goes.
