Synopsis

Wonder Boys is a story about Carnegie Mellon professor, Grady Tripp, who is facing a series of challenges in his personal and professional life. On the day his third wife leaves him and his literary agent arrives to pressure him to finish a novel seven years in the writing, Grady also learns that his married mistress is pregnant.

Seven years before, Grady was considered a wonder boy with his first novel, but now both he and his agent are in need of something. Over the weekend, Grady finds himself in a pot-induced haze, unable to make decisions.

One of his students, James Leer, starts to stir paternal feelings in Grady and raises homo-erotic urges in the agent. Academic politics further complicate things as Grady's mistress is the college chancellor, her husband chairs Grady's department, and James has just shot the husband's dog.

With all these challenges piling up, Grady is left wondering what to do next in this complex and engaging tale.
