Sinopsis
Cleopatra
En el año 48 a.C., Julio César (Sir Rex Harrison) persigue a Pompeyo desde Farsalia hasta Egipto. El faraón Ptolomeo XIII (Richard O'Sullivan), ahora gobernante supremo después de deponer a su hermana mayor, Cleopatra VII (Dame Elizabeth Taylor), intenta ganarse el favor de César presentándole la cabeza de Pompeyo, llevada por sus gobernadores, Pothinus (Grégoire Aslan) y Aquiles (John Doucette). Para ganar el apoyo de César frente a su hermano, Cleopatra se esconde en una alfombra, que Apolodoro (Cesare Danova), su sirviente, presenta a César. El romano queda inmediatamente cautivado. Desterrando a Ptolomeo, declara a Cleopatra como la única gobernante de Egipto y la toma como su amante. De su unión nace un hijo, Cesarión (Loris Loddi). Sin embargo, César debe regresar a Italia. Aunque se reúne brevemente con Cleopatra durante una magnífica recepción para la Reina en Roma, César es asesinado poco después, y Cleopatra regresa a Egipto. Cuando Marco Antonio (Richard Burton), protegido de César, ve a Cleopatra a bordo de su elaborada barcaza en Tarso algunos años más tarde, queda prendado y se convierte en su amante y aliado militar. A pesar de su relación, Antonio, para consolidar su posición en Roma, se casa con Octavia (Jean Marsh), hermana del ambicioso Octavio (Roddy McDowall). El matrimonio no satisface a nadie. Cleopatra está furiosa, y Antonio, cansado de su esposa romana, regresa a Egipto. Allí muestra su relación al casarse con Cleopatra en una ceremonia pública. Al percibir la debilidad de Antonio, Octavio ataca y derrota a sus fuerzas en Accio. Alarmada, Cleopatra retira su flota y busca refugio en su tumba.
