Synopsis
Dans un village perché sur une colline de la verdoyante Provence des années 1920, César Soubeyran, le riche patriarche d'une famille mourante, et son seul parent vivant, son neveu nommé Ugolin, sont prêts à perdre leur âme pour perpétuer la fière lignée des Soubeyran.
Avec cela à l'esprit, les deux agriculteurs élaborent un plan infaillible, et sans une once de honte, ils volent leur voisin romantique d'à côté, Jean Cadoret, un citadin souffrant de grave cyphose, de son trésor inconnu : une source bloquée et oubliée depuis longtemps sur sa propriété.
Maintenant, privé d'eau précieuse pendant un été français long et particulièrement sec, Jean et sa famille, sa femme Aimée et sa jeune fille Manon, doivent travailler deux fois plus dur pour réaliser leur noble aspiration, tandis que le duo méthodique détruit systématiquement leur avenir, regardant Jean échouer de loin.
