The Purge est un film d'horreur dystopique qui se déroule dans une société où, une fois par an, pendant 12 heures, tous les crimes, y compris le meurtre, sont légaux. Cette nuit, appelée La Purge, permet aux citoyens de libérer leurs pulsions violentes et de purger leur colère. Le film suit une famille qui se retrouve prise au piège dans leur maison alors que des intrus tentent de les tuer. Ils doivent lutter pour leur survie tout en essayant de comprendre les motivations de leurs agresseurs.
