Conosciuto per la sua abilità di spettacolo e costumi stravaganti che spesso incorporano un turbante rosa, molte delle sue canzoni contenevano temi sociali o politici. Il suo più grande successo è stato "Hymn No. 5", un commento sugli effetti della guerra del Vietnam sui militari, che è stato vietato alla radio.
