Sinossi
El Hadj studia a Parigi. È uno dei giovani senegalesi giunti a Parigi da quando la colonia francese è diventata indipendente per ottenere una buona istruzione in modo da poter servire la sua patria al suo ritorno. Inaspettatamente si trova improvvisamente di fronte a un problema con i suoi documenti di soggiorno, solo perché ha organizzato una proroga troppo tardi. La sua vita piacevole piena di buone prospettive è andata in un colpo solo. Affronta un dilemma. Può rimanere illegalmente in Francia, il paese in cui si sente a casa, dove ha i suoi amici, si è innamorato e può bere l'acqua del rubinetto. Oppure può tornare (senza laurearsi) nel paese del terzo mondo del Senegal per utilizzare le conoscenze acquisite. Non è solo una scelta pratica.
