Sinossi
Blanche, figlia di Emilie Bordeleau, lascia la sua piccola città franco-canadese e la sua numerosa famiglia per andare a vivere con la sorella sposata e studiare medicina a Montreal, in Canada. Poiché sono i primi anni '30, alle donne non è permesso diventare dottore e praticare la medicina. Blanche completa i suoi studi infermieristici, quindi accetta un posto nella lontana regione di Abitibi nel nord del Quebec, dove la mancanza di medici le consente la libertà di trattare i pazienti come farebbe un vero medico. Qui passa attraverso il dolore al cuore di affrontare gli atteggiamenti ostinati dei pionieri sciovinisti. Si scontra con un boss disonesto e se ne innamora.
