Sinossi
Il film commovente si basa sulla vera storia della famiglia Doyle nell'Irlanda degli anni '50. Desmond Doyle viene abbandonato dalla moglie che scappa in Australia e lo lascia con i loro tre figli piccoli. Cerca il suo meglio per continuare a sostenerli cantando al pub e facendo qualche lavoretto di pittura qua e là, solo per vedere il governo e i servizi sociali togliergli i figli. Dicono che non ci sia mai stato un precedente di un padre che cresce i suoi figli senza la madre presente. Va in tribunale, perde e gli viene detto che non può appellare il suo caso. Trova poi felicemente un avvocato in pensione che ha affrontato con successo la legge costituzionale in passato, che lo aiuta volentieri a portare il suo caso alla Corte Suprema.
