Sinossi
Norman Spencer, un ricercatore universitario, è sempre più preoccupato per sua moglie, Claire, una ex violoncellista concertista coinvolta in un grave incidente d'auto un anno fa, e che ha appena mandato via sua figlia Caitlin (figliastra di Norman) al college.
Adesso, Claire riferisce di sentire voci e di assistere a eventi inquietanti dentro e intorno alla loro casa sul lago nel Vermont, inclusa la visione del volto di una giovane donna riflessa nell'acqua.
Una Claire sempre più spaventata pensa che i fenomeni abbiano a che fare con la coppia che vive accanto, specialmente perché la moglie è scomparsa senza una spiegazione apparente.
